Services

Our Emergency Departments cares for over 85,000 people a year. From major trauma to lacerations and broken bones, it is important that when patients arrive in our emergency department they receive care that is fast and efficient and provided in a comfortable, healing environment.

Trauma Rooms

Critically ill and injured patients are cared for in our Trauma Rooms which are equipped for both pediatric and adult patients. The emergency departments at both UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and UM Harford Memorial Hospital include chest pain observation areas that feature special monitored rooms.

SAFE Rooms
Our emergency departments include separate and private rooms for patients who have been the victims of sexual assault. Our SAFE (sexual assault forensic examination) rooms are equipped with a special camera documentation system. SAFE room nurses are specially trained to collect evidence while attending to the emotional and physical needs of these patients.

Pediatric Emergency Department

When the unexpected happens to your child our Pediatric Emergency Department is here. Open 24/7, pediatric emergency physicians and nurses that are specially trained in emergency care for children and pediatric advanced life support are available at all times. Nine exam rooms created for children have been outfitted with kid-sized equipment, instruments and supplies designed to make procedures as relaxed and easy as possible. We are an “ouchless” emergency department using the latest pain management techniques- including pin medicine, sedation and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to make your child’s stay as comfortable as possible.

University of Maryland Express Care
This highly-trained express transport service is for people who may require a higher level of critical care than the emergency departments at UM Upper Chesapeake Health can provide alone. Transport services are available from both of our hospitals to critical care centers such as the University of Maryland Medical Center or another acute care hospital either by ground or air ambulance. The Express Care team consists of exceptionally qualified critical care transport nurses, paramedics and EMTs. Click Here for more information. Click Here for more information.
